Published Clinical Paper:
Treatment of Persistent Oral Communications in Horses Using a Rigid Obturator and Borate Bioactive Fibers
Hunt JR, Rice MK, Henry TJ. Journal of Veterinary Dentistry. 2023.
Persistent oral communications following equine dental disease or tooth extraction are among the most challenging complications encountered in equine dentistry. In this peer-reviewed case series, Hunt and colleagues describe a novel rigid obturator technique used to manage these defects in 22 horses. In most cases, the communication was first packed with RediHeal Wound Care, an inorganic borate-based bioactive fiber, before placement of the obturator. The authors selected this approach to promote healing and create a biologic barrier that prevented the restorative material from extending into the defect. Using this technique, clinical signs resolved in 21 of 22 horses (95.5%), with complete healing of the communication confirmed in 15 of 22 horses (68.2%).
